The Lago Mar community in Virginia Beach is on the northern end of the Currituck Sound in the Princess Anne area. The name, meaning “lake” and “ocean” in Spanish was obtained from the areas close proximity to the Lake Tecumseh and the Atlantic Ocean.
There are many wonderful community events in Lago Mar to participate in throughout the year. The most popular are the Strawberry Festival, the annual Peach Festival, 4th of July parade and picnic, & Neptune Festival. The annual Oktoberfest is also always a huge hit with friendly corn hole competitions, clowns, bounce houses, hula hoops, music, and of course the delicious food. A very special treat in December only for good kids is rumored to happen in Lago Mar… it’s said that Santa himself visits he homes of good little boys and girls to spread some holiday magic and cheer.
There is a Civic League for the residents of Lago Mar that organizes these wonderful events and brings the community together.
Lago Mar students attend Red Mill Elementary School, Princess Anne Middle School, and either Kellam High School or Ocean Lakes High School.
The community of Lago Mar was built around Ashville Bridge Creek, an inlet of Back Bay. There are 3 family friendly parks with tennis courts, picnic spaces, and playgrounds and a “Lago Mar Loop” which locals enjoy walking, jogging, and biking around.
